BEST PRACTICE 1

Title
Local Community Engagement through Voter Awareness Program
Objectives
The objective of the practice is to make the students in particular and other voters from local community in general understand the significance of casting their votes in elections. It aims to engage the students in various activities such as awareness rallies, signature campaigns, poster making, slogan writing competition, quizzes, and street dramas, etc., which help encourage other voters in society. The aim is to create aware and responsible citizens of the nation.
The Context
Election is the process through which people can express their political opinion. In the present scenario, Indian Politics have created much distrust among the people. Casteism, communalism, regionalism are other diseases that infects the free and fair election system. Hence, there is a dire need that voter awareness programs to be promoted at the college level to aware people of the voting system and the value of their Electoral Participation with this aim, the Government of India has launched systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) involving the students studying in Higher Education Institutions.
The Practice
Our Institution always encourages youth to contribute to the development of the country by conducting voter awareness programs. The students of the institution actively participate in the Voters awareness program organized by the college along with the faculty and staff. National Voters Day is also celebrated every year as a regular practice. The awareness program includes rallies held in the village of Churiyala in which students participate with banners in their hands, pronouncing self-made slogans. Apart from this, the institution organizes a ‘Special Lecture’ on the procedures of making the Voter ID cards for both new and old voters on the occasion of National Voters Day to make voting number Cent Percent. The institution also helps in making new voter identity cards through a campaign with the help of stall members and campus ambassadors. Throughout the academic year, different activities like wall painting,Rangoli making, poster presentations, slogan writing, speech, debate competition, street show, etc. are carried out to encourage the participation of the voters through the students and staff of the college. All these activities are not only the basic way of influencing and motivating the people to actively take part in nation-building but also these accomplishments pump
Evidence of Success
The practice of spreading awareness among the people for the electoral process is a success, as the increase in voting will surely affect the multiple domains of one’s life. As a result of this awareness campaign voters are more informed and inquisitive towards their representative before and after selection. They reject the ideas of Casteism over development. The number of occurrence of liquor death has reduced remarkably but more work needs to be done in this direction.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required
Financial resources are arranged from the college contingency fund. To organize better campaigns more funds are required. Number of students need to be increased in terms of both, admissions in the college and presence and participation of students in such events. Further since local community is generally poor farmer and laborers their availability and active engagement in these activities is not very promising.
